TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
Banana Peel™ jacketless cable reaches Europe
A revolutionary new cabling solution set to peel away the difficulties associated with home installation has been launched in Europe by Belden Inc., USA. Banana Peel™ composite cabling, part of the Belden HomeChoice™ range, provides the complete answer to the ever increasing problem of multiple installations around new homes. With the recent introduction of the HomeChoice™ product range into Europe, the “intelligent” home can now finally be installed far quicker and more easily than in the past with no loss of performance to the cables once in place.
The new cable features a patent-pending design that affixes the individual cables to a centre spline, eliminating the need for an outer jacket. With no jacket to be stripped-off, easy identification of the individual data, coax and fibre cable components can be made; and once they are peeled-off the spline, they are ready for termination. Mr Hans Werner Eich, marketing manager of HomeChoice™, explained: “For many years the installation of cables into the home has been labour intensive and over the last decade we have also experienced a greater demand for the intelligent home, leading to a greater requirement for multiple cables to be installed. This in turn has led to longer installation times. Banana Peel™ is our answer to both demands providing high-performance cables that are built to withstand demand now and in the future, as well as greatly reducing the time and difficulties associated with installation”.
The new line of Banana Peel™ composite cable includes structured cabling solutions UL-verified to meet Category 5e performance standards. The cabling is available in four configurations: two 2 x 2 versions offering Cat 5e UTP-data cables and two coaxes. One version has standard Cat 5e UTP cable and standard quad-shield coax cable, whilst the other one is featured with bonded-pair-Technology and Duobond Plus®. Other interesting versions are the 2 x 2 x 2 versions with two fibre optic cables added to the 2 x 2 design. The Cat 5e data cables utilise either DataTwist® bonded-pair construction or an unbonded pair DataTwist cable construction.
The bonded-pair structure is unique in the industry in that it binds the individual insulated conductors along their longitudinal axis, resulting in uniform conductor-to-conductor spacing and the complete elimination of gaps between the conductors. This patented design demonstrates superior electrical performance before and after installation. The series 6 coaxial cables (RG6), feature two different types of shielding: Belden’s innovative, high-performance Duobond Plus® shielding - foil/braid/foil construction with a shorting fold - or Belden's Duobond® IV quad shield. The LANlite® Ethernet grade fibre cables are 62.5µm tight-buffered constructions.
