850nm laser-optimised 50µm multimode fibre for 10Gbit/s application over 300m

To support low-cost, short reach 10 Gbit/s connectivity, Draka Fibre Technology, The Netherlands, has recently developed MaxCap 300 multimode fibre, a 850nm laser-optimised 50µm multimode fibre for 300m applications. These applications are in particular local area networks backbones, storage area networks and central office connections. The MaxCap multimode fibres are produced by the proprietary Plasma-activated Chemical Vapour Deposition process (PCVD), offering the best core profile accuracy in multimode fibre.

The new MaxCap 300 fully supports 850nm serial 10 Gbit/s applications over 300m. An effective modal bandwidth of 2,000MHz.km at 850nm under laser launch is ensured by means of 850nm DMD (Differential Mode Delay) specification. The overfilled launch bandwidth of the MaxCap 300 multimode fibre is ≥ 1500 MHz.km at 850nm, and ≥ 500 MHz.km at 1,300nm. This overfilled launch bandwidth performance gives strong support to legacy applications. The MaxCap 300 fibres provide a smooth, low-cost migration path for premises backbone cabling from 10 Mbit/s up to 10Gbit/s over 300m. they also offer another cost-saving advantage by eliminating the need to use expensive mode-conditioning patch cords for 1,300nm laser-based systems, such as 1000BASE-LX. They are also equipped with an excellent microbending sensitivity reducing coating, DLPC9, which results in easy cabling and installation. The MaxCap 300 multimode fibre fulfils the requirements of TIA/EIA-492AAAC-A, ISO/IEC 11801 OM-3 type and type A1a.2 of IEC 60793-2-10.
