TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
Cost-effective fibre optic cables for carriers
Datwyler Cables+Systems AG, Switzerland, has recently launched BasicLine, a new, cost-effective family of fibre optic cables for carriers, especially designed for outdoor use in plastic ducts and underground cabling systems. Thanks to their dry filling (swelling elements), all BasicLine cables are completely waterproof and easy to install. They are lighter and thinner than other comparable cables, whilst still meeting all requirements to withstand pulling and crushing forces for installation and operation. Depending on design, their threshold value for pulling force is at 3kN. The new fibre optic cables can be blown through appropriate ducts and cabling systems up to a distance of 4,000 metres. The cables are available with a minimum of 12 and maximum of 144 fibres. Two designs with up to 24 fibres are available in central tube construction:
- Model ZGGT 1000 BasicLine for normal mechanical requirements, which is metal-free but still with rodent protection;
- Model ZwbKWT Basic Line with a corrugated steel tape protection against rodents. The latter provides outstandingly stable installed performance and is suitable to be fed into ducts.
For BasicLine cables with more than 24 and up to 144 fibres, a multiple tube construction is used. With wbGGT BasicLine, the company offers a GRP armoured construction for use in plastic ducts and for ordinary protected cable lines with low mechanical load. Model wbKT Basic Line can be blown into long ducts as demanded by large WAN carriers. All BasicLine products are longitudinally waterproof as guaranteed by their dry filling and meet all national and international standards.
