Single-mode fibre optic connectors for cabling termination applications
Tyco Electronics, USA, has introduced a single-mode version of its AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus fibre optic connectors. These connectors were designed to complement the multimode LightCrimp Plus connectors that have been very popular for more than four years. The single-mode connectors feature a new fibre splice engine technology that allows for the precision alignment of cabled fibre to the factory-polished, stubbed ferrule-enabling installers to obtain low insertion loss and low reflectance. Simply terminate the fibre in three easy steps: strip the fibre, cleave the fibre and crimp the connector.
The LightCrimp Plus single-mode connectors exceed TIA/EIA 568 B.3 and ISO/IEC 11801 insertion loss and return loss specifications. The AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus family of connectors is ideal for direct termination applications at patch panels and wall outlets, and for either backbone or horizontal cabling. “The increasing popularity of hybrid optical fibre networks using multimode and single-mode fibres has emphasised the need for a single termination system throughout the network. Technological advancements have allowed Tyco Electronics to develop a pre-polished, low insertion loss single-mode LightCrimp Plus connector that eliminates the need for manual polishing, making termination and installation faster for the installer”, commented Mr Herb Congdon, global fibre product manager.
AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus connectors also offer additional benefits because they retain the same profile as a standard epoxy connector, simplifying installation. They feature a metal body which delivers robust and stable performance over time and can withstand temperature fluctuations ranging from -10°C to +60°C, meeting the relevant TIA/EIA, IEC, CECC and EN standards. Another added benefit to the installer is the same toolkit and procedures are used for the single-mode product that is used for the multimode AMP Netconnect LightCrimp Plus connectors.
