TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
New smoke suppressant additive for low-smoke PVC applications
Great Lakes Chemical Corp., USA, a world leading producer of speciality chemicals for water treatment, flame-retardants, polymer stabilisers, fire suppressants and performance chemicals, has recently launched its new Smokebloc® AOM-100 smoke suppressant and flame-retardant additive, suitable for rigid and flexible PVC applications with low-smoke requirements.
Smokebloc AOM-100 is an ammonium octamolybdate that reduces the amount of aromatic species released as smoke when charring occurs during a fire. This new additive is ideally suited for PVC applications where smoke emission is a critical issue, such as public buildings, aircraft, and mass transit vehicle interiors, and where products must meet tight flammability and smoke production specifications.
“Smokebloc AOM-100 was designed so that our customers could meet or exceed specifications such as the UL910 standard for wire and cable products installed in ducts, plenum, and other spaces that are used to transport environmental air and the ASTM E84 standard for products used in building and construction”, commented Mr Bill Neagle, Great Lakes' vice president of business management for flame retardants. Smokebloc AOM-100 can also be used as a partial replacement for antimony trioxide flame retardant in smoke critical applications.
