At NPE 2006, Wayne Machine & Die Company will show its advanced SCADA system for extruding. This is useful in extrusion applications where strong record keeping is required.

The system monitors all machine functions including zone temperatures, melt pres-sure, melt temperature, screw rpm, motor load percentage and other critical variables. An option for torque measurement is also available for rheological applications. The extruders feature all external surfaces made from passivated stainless steel. The screw and barrel are also made from two different grades of stainless steel with different hardness levels to prevent mechanical galling while providing corrosion resistance to aggressive polymers.

A completely new range of screw designs has been developed for these extruders to enhance mixing with the specific goal of reducing melt temperature spikes that can cause mechanical weakness in biotech polymers.

Single screw models are available from ΒΌ" up to 2-1/2", co-rotating twin screws from 16mm up to 50mm, and a 31mm conical model specifically designed for extrusion of powders.
