TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
Taber Industries
Taber Industries will introduce an improved Rotary Platform Abraser. Designed to evaluate material resistance to rubbing abrasion, this precision test instrument can be used to conduct tests of plastics, coated surfaces, textiles, metals, leather, rubber, plus many other materials.
With new features, the instruments are easy to operate and available with a single (Model 5135) or dual turntable
(Model 5155).
The operator interface includes simple, on-screen instructions that enable the operator to change the following test parameters: test mode, test duration, test cycles, turntable speed and vacuum suction level (%). The interface also includes four preset cycle buttons to automatically program
100, 500, 1000 or 2500 test cycles.
The characteristic rub-wear action of the Abraser is produced by the sliding rotation of two abrading wheels against the test sample.
Quick wheel mounting is now available with the introduction of an expanding collet hub with push-button operation. A spring loaded, bevelled retaining nut provides a positive locking force on the hub retaining lip that makes certain the wheels remain securely fastened until disengaged.
This feature eliminates the need for the right and left hand threaded wheel-locking nuts and provides increased clearance for a larger viewing area of the test specimen.
For reproducible test results, a vacuum system removes loose debris during the test. The distance between the vacuum pick-up nozzle and the specimen surface is critical and often overlooked.
Located on the top of the instrument, the vacuum nozzle height adjustment knob is now more easily accessible.
Each turn represents 0.05-inch height adjustment, allowing the operator to set the gap with greater precision.
With previous versions of the Rotary Abraser, turntable speed was fixed at 60 or 72 rpm. With the 5135 and 5155 models, either turntable rotation speed can be selected on the same instrument.
This enables the operator to choose the speed referenced in all test methods referencing the Taber Abraser.
