TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
Prysmian showcases FTTH range
Prysmian used the CeBIT exhibition held in early March to showcase its latest optical fibre solutions targeted specifically at the rapidly growing ‘last mile’ sector of the market.
The growth in demand for high speed broadband services to both the domestic and business user has resulted in a need for operators and service providers to significantly upgrade their networks.
With new broadband connections world-wide currently being added at a rate of around 5 million per month the need to provide the information carrying infra-structure to support this vast amount of data is paramount.
The proportion of these connections being made via optical fibre is steadily growing and Prysmian has therefore developed a suite of products which addresses these infrastructure requirements.
The heart of the Prysmian offering is its Sirocco blown fibre system. Supporting this are a range of alternative cabling solutions together with the various connectivity products which have been developed to complete the passive system offering.
Latest updates on optical fibre technology includes PrimaLight, Prysmian’s new 200 micron fibre together with all other fibre types in Prysmian’s comprehensive range. “The timing of the CeBIT event was ideal for us,” said Richard Thomas, Marketing Director at Prysmian Cables & Systems.
“It gave us another opportunity to introduce the Prysmian brand to the market – following our transition from Pirelli – at a time when interest in fibre to the home (FTTH) is gathering significant momentum in Europe. We expect the next 12 months to bring with it a major increase in last mile fibre deployments both in Europe and elsewhere in the world.”
Visitors to CeBIT also saw Prysmian’s new range of enhanced xDSL cables which have been developed to support the traditional copper based systems which still provide a significant proportion of today’s broadband services.
