TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
‘Superior Fire Resistant’ tape from Scapa
Scapa Polymerics has introduced a new higher performance fire resistant tape, able to withstand extreme temperatures. SFR 10/103, part of the Scapa Polymerics Megotape® range, has a fire performance rating similar to that expected of mica tapes and offers the cable-wrapping sector superior fire protection in power and control, data transmission, fibre optics, instrumentation and emergency power applications.
Designed as a fire barrier tape with exceptional performance, Megotape SFR10/103 is targeted at cables complying with a number of international specifications including IEC331, IEC332 part 3, Cat A and IEEE 383 and exhibits significantly improved fire performance properties to those of standard fire-retardant (FR) tapes.
SFR 10/103 comprises a closely woven glass fabric tape with a unique and revolutionary halogen-free, flame retardant compound.
Amongst its benefits, SFR 10/103 offers low dusting, can be applied at high speed under tension, displays no delamination and is highly flexible, making it extremely conformable in longitudinal applications and with thin conductors. Resistant to radiation, the tape also possesses a high tensile strength, good shear forces and does not give off toxic smoke or fumes when burnt. The tape is available in narrow widths down to 6mm.
Scapa Polymerics supplies a wide range of low smoke, halogen-free cable wrapping and fire retardant tapes. The company has more than 90 years’ experience and works in close collaboration with cable manufacturers to meet required specifications. Megotape products minimise damage from fire, inhibit corrosion and prevent the ingress of water as well as being used for electrical screening, binding, and bedding and core identification.
