TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
Extended fire ratings from Belden CDT
The entertainment industry is increasingly demanding halogen-free cables that are also acid-free, non-toxic, have a low-smoke density as well as being flame and fire retardant. In response to this demand Belden CDT Electronics has developed a range of premium triax and coax cables with extended fire ratings.
Currently available are 7784ANH (Triax11), 7785ANH (Triax14), 1505ANH (RG59), 1694ANH (RG6), 7731ANH (RG6), these high performance cables are intended for use in all types of professional and commercial video environments.
The cables meet all the key European standards: IEC60754-1, IEC60754-2, IEC61034-1 as well as flame retardant (IEC 60332-1 and IEC60332-3C).
They also meet and exceed the stringent criteria prescribed by individual European countries.
Recent research has shown that several of the most commonly used cables, including low smoke, low halogen cables, – which may have a standard fire rating – can in fact propagate fire and smoke extremely rapidly and in some actual fires, local structural damage has occurred.
With the risk of fire and smoke propagation and spread throughout a building come the additional risks of corrosive and toxic effects. Low halogen cables burn fiercely in a realistic fire scenario. Forced airflow in some voids used to cool equipment can ‘feed’ the fire.
Where the air flow has heating, ventilating or air-conditioning function, fire and toxicity smoke can be distributed to other parts of the building.
Marketed as Brilliance, these broadcast camera and video cables ensure top performance, whilst at the same time meeting extended international and European standards.
