Sikora’s latest X-ray technology for insulating and jacketing lines

X-RAY 2000 is an on-line measuring and control system for insulating and jacketing lines. Incorporating the latest X-ray technology, the system provides continuous measurements on the diameter, ovality, wall thickness and eccentricity of the cable. X-RAY 2000 is focused on cost savings for the cable manufacturer. It achieves this through the reduction of both start-up scrap and material over-consumption.

In use, X-rays transilluminate the cable and the resulting picture is directly projected onto a high-resolution line sensor. Measuring values are continuously available on an 8-point display in fractions of a second.

Sikora cites the advantages: “It allows for the fast centring of the crosshead directly after start-up, gives continuous measurement and control of the extrusion line, and can be used on round and sector shaped conductors. It is of essential importance for insulating and jacketing lines where, besides tight tolerances for the products, the economical aspects of cable production and quality control are important.”
