TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
Wire cleaning: completely dry process, without speed limitation
The Brush Holder (BH) system “achieves impressive cost savings in the in-line cleaning of high or low carbon wires with virtually no consumable expenses,” says Decalub’s Technical Manager Dominique Petkovic. “The system is compact and easy to install
in-line with any existing wire drawing machine.”
The system consists of several BH units, installed in-line, each fitted with an automatic pressure control. The wire is ‘shaved’ in successive very fine layers by the bristles (and their penetration is adjustable from 0 to 25 microns per pass/unit.
The resulting drawn wire is ‘white-metal’ clean in appearance. If five BH units are used, 99.5% of residual lubricant will be removed after the last draft.
The exceptionally reactive surface greatly improves the bonding of metallic or
plastic coatings, enabling impressive
zinc adherence and iron-zinc interface characteristics.
The process improves wire fatigue properties in further re-drawing, after
heat treatment, galvanizing (high-tensile rope wire, spring wire, bead wire).
One set of brushes will clean 200 tonnes
of wire, hence Mr Petkovic’s confident assertion regarding low expenditure on consumables.
The system’s applications include: annealing, plating, welding (chain, mesh), painting, plasticizing and so on. Further specifications can be found online.
