Splice welder from Nextrom
Nextrom has developed an automatic laser welding machine – NLW 200 – to splice metal tapes, with a faster method that can also provide a better quality of welding.
Traditionally the splicing of metal tape
has been done with overlapped seams. Because of this there has been a risk of tape break during the corrugation and forming of the tape, which can be totally eliminated with laser welding where the tapes are welded together without overlapping.
Also the traditional splice welding process needed quite a lot of manual work from
the operator such as removing the polymer coating, cutting and placing the tapes
for welding. Hence the welding time was relatively long and demanded certain skills.
The new NLW 200 welding machine has been developed to automate all possible work sequences and thus reduce the margin for human error and the cost of skilled labour.
Additionally the splicing time is substantially shortened, less scrap is produced and a higher production speed
of the jacketing line during splicing is achievable.
All necessary operating parameters, such as the type of material and the thickness and width of the metal tape can be set for the welding unit from the recipe system without the need for any mechanical settings or adjustments of the machine.
With these automated features, the uptime of the production can be maximized
during splicing and during the change of production type.
