Data and hybrid cable stranders from Delachaux
Delachaux's latest RollerTwist™ strander for the production of top quality LAN cable (UTP/FTP/F2TP/SSTP) categories 6, 6E, 7 and its new high speed single twist buncher – the DTX 630 – for SSTP categories 7 and 8 pairs and hybrid cores (silica or POF stranded with copper cores) were recently put through their paces at a special international event organised for potential purchasers in this highly competitive market segment. More than 70 delegates from major international LAN cable producers attended the event, and saw machines being demonstrated under production conditions.
The high speed RollerTwist stranding line produces all type of LAN cable – UTP, FTP, F2TP, and SSTP from category 5E to preliminary category 8. At this event category 6E and category 7 cables were manufactured and, after jacketing, were tested by the delegates using their own production testing equipment. All critical parameters were checked. This high speed double twist strander with single twist quality, allows production speeds three times or higher than any standard single twist stranding line.
Delachaux's Sales Director Alain Bernard comments: "This RollerTwist technology originated from Godderidge, and it has always been copied, even very recently, but has never been equalled." During the demonstration FTP, F2TP and category 6E cables were produced at very high speed, and category 7 at up to 200m/min. Mr Bernard continues: "Compared to normal single twist stranders, much higher quality cables – with good consistency and stable dynamic cable geometry at lay plate – were reached with this new RollerTwist. Impedance is very stable, very repetitive and the NEXT level has been exceptionally measured up to 1.0Ghz."
In what Mr Bernard describes as "another revolutionary product from the Godderidge/Delachaux team", the DTX-630 high speed 'single twist' pairing and micro-stranding line was also privately demonstrated. Delachaux claims the machine is three times more productive than any similar conventional single twist machines. In the demonstration it is reported it produced very high quality pairs for categories 6E, 7 and 8 cables, as well as producing hybrid cores with silica tight buffer and plastic fibres together with copper pairs. Production was demonstrated at 3000 TPM with less than 0.02dB/Km attenuation increase. Speeds can reach up to 3500 TPM. This machine is flexible and can be switched to a conventional 6000 TPM double twister.
In the light of what the company calls 'copy' equipment, Delachaux maintains a policy of customer confidentiality. But Mr Bernard noted: "Four major LAN makers – one each in South America, North America, Europe and China – have carried out in-depth comparisons between the RollerTwist and the major presently available copies. In the end, all four of them ordered the RollerTwist."
