TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
Spring makers – can you still afford to make scrap?
The cost of wire is spiralling ever upwards and more customers are demanding ‘zero defects’. It seems as though the days of filling the scrap bin are over.
Machines are needed that are not only
fast, but accurate and which maintain accuracy even in a ‘lights out’ situation. Spring-making machines from Itaya Europe, UK, have been designed to add both these qualities to customers’ armoury.
Machines from the Itaya AX or Itaya SX ranges can produce springs at up to
6000+ pieces an hour – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Itaya does not expect customers to replace their current machines. Instead it has been developing new products which can help get the best from existing equipment.
The company has taken its already popular SCD-5 length measuring device and re-designed it using the latest technology. This presents an affordable all-in-one solution to monitor spring production.
The Itaya SCD-7 uses state-of-the-art computer and optical techniques to give a powerful, portable, monitoring system that can be added to virtually any machine in a factory.
The SCD-7 can be equipped with a capacity sensor for length control and two cameras which can be configured to control length, diameter or shape. Outputs are provided for two sorting chutes, analogue signals for a pitch feedback motor and digital signals which interface directly with other Itaya machines or suitably equipped machines from other manufacturers.
With quality and reliability built in, these units will ensure that even the oldest machines in existing factories give the best performance possible.
