TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
State-of-the-art cutting station from TAK
A new manually operated precision cutting station (PCS) has been unveiled by
TAK Enterprises. It has been developed to meet the needs of small- and medium-sized companies that have to produce short, precision-length pins, dowels, blanks and so on in small quantities but with a close length tolerance and a square burr free cut end.
The innovative station has an adjustable precision-length setting fixture that can be set to produce small length pieces through the use of a ‘bolt action’ integrated settable stop pin device. The PCS fits easily upon any standard size shop bench and includes an air regulator, electric foot switch and cutter head with precision ground carbide cutting quills. Between them the three versions of the PCS can handle diameters from 0.007" to 0.375".
All of the three PCS series stations use ‘cassette’ style tooling which can be changed quickly to accommodate different diameter sizes, shapes and material types. The length setter device is removable to allow the PCS to cut material to any length required.
The PCS is ideal for cutting pre-straightened bar stock but can also be used with coiled or spooled linear materials. The piece length is set with the length adjustment fixture and locked down. The material is then fed in until it hits the stop pin device and the cut is executed with the foot switch.
The stop pin is moved back out of the cutter head using a ‘bolt action’ rifle motion and the cut piece is pushed out with the remaining uncut material. Operators can achieve repeatable length cuts to a tolerance of +/– .002" or better.
