TECHNOLOGY NEWS:

New Price Competitive Drive Introduced

Techna has represented Joachim Uhing (inventors of the Rolling Ring Drive) for over 32 years, in the U.K., and now introduces the latest drive in Uhing’s extensive range.

The RGK3-20-0MCRF drive (Fig.1) has been specifically developed for price conscious winding operations, by designing a drive with virtually no labour costs and with a minimum of component machining, whilst maintaining the high standards which have made Uhing the World market leader in Rolling-Ring Drives.

For the first time, modern, high quality, plastic materials have been used for the three ring housings, which has been proven in excess of 80 million reversal cycles, at increased load, performed both on prototypes and in series production.

Such developments, which are the result of more than 50 years R & D and experience in the manufacture of rolling-ring drives, have resulted in an exceptionally well priced unit with extremely good technical capabilities, for general winding operations throughout the wire and cable industries.

A patented design of reversal mechanism keeps all loads away from the ring cases and the unit provides side thrust of 110 N, with infinitely variable pitch setting dial and a release lever providing for manual repositioning on the shaft. There is no slowdown feature.

The unit is “universal” as direction of travel reversal, results only from placement of end-stops either in front of or behind the unit, depending on direction of shaft rotation.

Optional features provide for pneumatic reversal, flanges with wipers and Uhing’s “FA “non-contact flange scanning system.

Uhing provide the World’s widest choice of Rolling-Ring Drives, with some 17 standard models, from the miniature “Kinemax” through 3 and 4-ring units for shaft diameters of 15, 20, 22,30, 40,50, 60 and 80mm, with all units up-to 40mm shaft diameter having been redesigned, with new materials and aesthetics to provide even greater performance, at significantly reduced cost, with the following advantages: • Automatic reciprocating travel, on a smooth shaft • Variable speed adjustment up to 4.2M / sec (can be different in both directions, at constant speed and direction of shaft rotation) • Variable adjustment of traverse length • High dynamics at reversal points • Free-movement lever for manual repositioning • Low operating and maintenance costs • Side thrust up to 3600N (depending on model)
