Wire cleaning: drawn wire in smooth and glossy finish for plating quality

The French company Decalub has introduced its new in-line Pressure Wet Cleaning (PWC) system that cleans lubricant residual from dry drawn wire to obtain a smooth and glossy finish in plating quality in-line with a drawing machine. The PWC system is particularly recommended for cleaning applications in which a traditional process is inappropriate, especially with wires drawn in severe conditions, from mechanically descaled rod or acid cleaned rod, resulting in increased heat and burned lubricant tightly bound to the wire surface and embedded in microscopic cracks.

The system provides high levels of cleanliness with dry drawn wires, without the need for acid, caustic and ultrasonic cleaning. The system operates practically at all speeds without limitation, dictated mainly by cooling capability of the wire drawing machine. The system is used to clean drawn wires from lubricant residual, Ca or Na-based, prior to coating or heat treatment including plating (NiCr, brass, copper, .etc.), galvanising, patenting, annealing, painting, welding, cladding, etc. The PWC system is environmentally friendly, clean and safe in operation, simple to install and to use in-line with any wire drawing machine.
