Efficient in-line automatic coiling machine
Success today in the wire & cables industry depends heavily on product quality combined with low-cost production. One critical area that contributes to this success is efficient material handling equipment. SAMP Sistemi, Italy, manufacturer of handling equipment both for wire drawing and extrusion lines, has introduced its model MDC 300, an automatic coiling machine particularly suitable for extrusion process.
The MDC 300 is a compact unit, designed for in-line coiling of cables, also suitable for automotive cables. Its wide performance range makes it an ideal upgrade for existing lines, as well as ideal equipment for the newest and fastest insulation lines available on the market. The MDC 300 coiler is fully automatic (it does not need any accumulator) and has been designed to make it possible to change coils at maximum production speeds without slowing down the process. Particular attention has been paid to the quality of the wire distribution in winding mode, as well as in the precision and efficiency in the wire hooking to the empty drum. The wire passage from the full drum to the empty one is automatically occurred by meter counter signal or upon calling, avoiding the conductor stretching even at the maximum speed.
The machine is also provided with a coil transfer system that feeds an automatic independent strapping unit. This unit straps the full coils and unloads them on their collecting zone. The whole system is managed in auto mode. A label printer can also complete the system. The coiling machine is also equipped with:
- Dancer for line speed timing, provided with mandrel and wire tension adjustment;
- Wire distributor that allows the stroke adjustment;
- Wire distribution pitch coil transfer device based on a manipulator.
All the MDC 300 change operations, such as coil unloading, wire unhooking, are automatic and managed as a cycle by a programmable logic. Key technical features include the ability to handle insulated wires (0.20 to 6.00mm2) on a minimum 100mm Ø drum with a flange diameter of up to 330mm. The maximum rotational speed is 3,800rpm and provides a maximum production line speed of 1,200m/min.
