New technology in efficient wire welding

End-users or distributors order wire articles more and more often in small quantities. This requires the producer to frequently adjust their machines to different products. In order to increase the economic efficiency for the production of wire articles, it is necessary to lower change-over times. Ideal-Werk GmbH, Germany, has recently introduced a new machine, specially developed to meet this requirement.

The new mesh-welding machine, model GAE 112, has been designed to clearly decrease downtimes for a small investment. This new series of machines are made for mesh widths up to 1,200; 1,600 and 2,000mm and mesh lengths up to 2,000 or 3,000mm. They work with single phase DC to ensure a high-quality of the weld joint. The welding portal can be equipped with different transformers. The current distribution runs through a new secondary BUS system and direct clamping of the cylinders. New welding heads, which are made as compact units for welding, are fixed in a slide-way of the BUS system - a set of welding units in compact design. They incorporate the welding cylinder, the upper and lower electrode holders and the electro-magnets in each unit. These units can be moved and positioned laterally after releasing of a hand lever. The clamping of units is made within seconds. Input of the line wires can be done either by manual input device or automatic feeding. The newly developed cross wire magazine allows precise and quick adjustment to the wire sizes. Plug-in type guiding heads ensure correct positioning of wire in a variable grid. All adjustments can be effected with a single tool from a “master position”. The output device is actuated by a NC servo-motor. Its driving ways can be easily programmed from a PC. The welding parameters are also introduced into the PC. All adjustments can be carried-out quickly and uncomplicated even by untrained operators. According to Ideal-Werk, the new welding machine, model GAE 112, offers industrial mesh manufacturers a great opportunity to reduce down-times and to increase productivity.
