New grinding wheels for NIRO springs

Grinding of compression springs represents the most cost intensive step in the manufacturing process. Stainless wire qualities and vanadium alloy qualities with low-spring loads result in increased grinding times, short dressing intervals, as well as increased grinding wheel consumption. Th. Leisse GmbH & Co KG, Germany, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of grinding wheels for the spring industry, has recently introduced new grinding wheels for NIRO springs.

The new generation of grinding wheels is based on sintered aluminium oxide. A new bonding system makes it possible to manufacture grinding wheels with a pore volume being increased by 15 to 25%. The sintered aluminium oxide grinding wheels with structures marked 10 - 13 show the following significant advantages: - Dressing cycles: 4 to 10 fold longer; - Shorter grinding time: 20 to 30%; - Increased service life of wheels: 20 to 50%

An optimised work-piece quality is achieved when using the new grinding wheel generation. It is considerably less difficult to adhere to the fixed tolerances (e1, e2, L0).
