TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
Efficient crosshead for silicone extrusion
Manufacturing a complete line of spiral heads for all materials, as well as rotating heads, Guill Tool & Engineering Co Inc., USA, has recently introduced its Series 500 of crossheads or in-line dies for silicone. Designed for a precision silicone extrusion, the new series has specially been enhanced for medical, fine wire and OEM tubing to large heads with up to 5 layers or multi-stripe capability. The 500 Series offers benefits, such as a unique spilt manifold that enables two, four or more tubes or profiles to be produced with the same head, as well as an integral heating and cooling system that assures proper temperature control to prevent scorching of the extruded material.
Guill Tool’s heads offer a patent pending FeatherTouch™ adjustment in the die holder, a cartridge-style ball assembly that does not require the loosening of retaining screws to make adjustments. Fixed centre can be added to any Guill head. Additional unique benefits include the company’s Seal Right System, a positive seal that eliminates leakage between deflectors, along with easy self-alignment. The Series 500 unique flow system encompasses a 1-5-layer capability and this tooling also adapts to any existing extruder lay-out. Mr Bill Conley, sales manager, commented: “Our multi-layer designed head handles up to 5 layers and also has a multi-stripe capability for an internal or external stripe. This external capability fully encapsulates the stripe in an outside skin and the external stripe capability enables colour coding or identification for a specific orientation or application”.
