TECHNOLOGY NEWS:
A new French revolution… in the world of cable drums
During wire Düsseldorf 2004, the French company Joly renowned for the quality of its metal drums with staving and cradles, presented a novelty that is set to revolutionise the world of drums. The drum that rolls is already well known… and now, thanks to the French company, we will be introduced to a new drum that rolls and turns without any effort whatsoever. Mr Philippe Depreux, Chairman and managing director of the company, concerned about the new constraints in terms of labour ergonomics and the need to reduce accidents, has developed an ergonomic drum together with his team.
The principle of the new ergonomic drum is simple: two independent flanges allow the coil to turn on itself without any effort, and to limit the operator’s rotating action backwards. The result is immediate: for the operator, an ease of operation, for the company, a saving in maintenance, which in turn means a significant saving in time. This innovation can be adapted to any need.
For several years, Joly has been specialised in the design and manufacture of metal drums with metal staving and built-in cradles for export purposes or long-term storage. This new concept, patented for the manufacture of drums equipped with metal staving, enables packaging of extremely fragile cables and fibres by means of a shaped strip of metal or panels made of thin galvanized sheet (the staves can be removed by means of a key). 4 minutes of application are sufficient for 2,400mm Ø metal drums. The drum is 30 to 40% lighter than a wooden drum with wooden staving. The cradle, specially designed for all types of drums, ensures maximum safety during transport and handling on site. The company also offers a wide range of double coiling winches and storage winches for use at sea or underwater.
