| Specialising in the design and manufacture of braid and braid-related products, Mettex Electric Co. Ltd, UK, has recently invested in the installation of a further high-speed mesh machine to meet the increasing demand for its range of knitted wire mesh tapes. The new machine is capable of knitting wire tapes in electro tin-plated or nickel-plated copper, galvanised steel or other ferrous and non-ferrous wires. The standard 25 or 50mm width tape sizes are available and supplied in coils of 10 or 25m.
Mesh tapes of this type are mainly used for EMC/RFI screening of electrical power, control, data and communications cables and are used throughout the utilities sector for earth continuity in cable joints. By its nature, the tapes also provide mechanical protection by forming a cushion against adjacent surfaces. The tapes are wrapped around the item to be protected to give a 50% overlap, which then produces four layers of screening.
