New Device recognises empty braiding spools
Maschinenfabrik Niehoff GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, one of the worlds leading manufacturers of machinery for the wire and cable industry, is offering a device developed by the Yield Management Corp., USA, which recognises empty braiding spools (Niehoff recently acquired the world exclusive rights for using the device from the US company). Working with sensors, the device automatically recognises when braiding spools are getting low during operation. It stops the braiding machine in order to allow the exchange of empty spools for full ones. All braiding bobbins, irrespective of their colour, can be seized. The application of the device results in considerable cost savings, because nearly all the wire on the braiding spool can be used completely.

In future, the new recognition device will belong to the standard equipment of all braiding machines of Niehoffs BMV series. It can also be fitted easily to existing braiding machines, which operate according to the lever arm principle or the deflector principle. The function of the device has been demonstrated to the visitors during wire Dsseldorf 2004, where a BMV 16 high-speed braiding machine, equipped with the device, was working under industrial conditions.
