| The benefits of the Injected Metal Assembly (IMA) technology span numerous applications in a broad range of industries, including automotive vehicles, industrial controls, appliances, electronic components, power tools, hardware, computers and telecom market sectors. Introduced by the Canadian company FisherTech, a division of FisherCast Global Corp., this unique and proven moulten injection technology cost-effectively replaces traditional mechanical processes used for joining pre-manufactured fittings to cable or wire with a single-step process. It eliminates the use of pre-manufactured components, and in many cases, multiple assembly steps. FisherTechs cable termination technology simplify the manufacturing process into a single step operation, increase productivity, improve quality and reduce costs. The termination is cast in high-strength zinc alloy, as it is shrink locked to the cable or wire, replacing the need to mechanically fasten a pre-manufactured fitting. Virtually any shape of termination can be produced on bare or coated conduit, single wire or multi-strand cable, flexible shafting, or wire rope with or without a fibre core.
At wire Dsseldorf 2004, the company displayed innovative enhancements, introducing redesigned automatic and semi-automatic cable termination systems, CAF (Cable Automatic First End), models CPM-1 and CPM-5. A new electric nozzle heater unit maintains a precise and consistent nozzle temperature and sprue melt back, eliminating operator intervention and reducing chances of inconsistent and/or partial injection. It replaces a gas-powered heater, which required adjustment for temperature fluctuations caused by changing ambient conditions. An adjustable advance mechanism now allows the stroke to be minimised in many applications for increased cycle rates. With the new foot-start switch and low-pressure die close, the moveable half of the tool closes under low-pressure until the tool halves are almost closed, then the system switches to high-pressure. This leaves the operators hands free to handle components, providing increased productivity and the option of two-cavity tooling in semi-automatic systems. The system is enclosed with key access to eliminate unauthorised adjustments. All controls are centralised on the operator interface pendant arm, which can be swivelled to a position convenient for the operator.
