| Dow Wire & Cable Compounds, USA, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Co., has recently introduced a new generation of halogen-free flame-retardant (HFFR) compounds. First among the new family of advanced polyolefin-based compounds are DFDA-1643 NT EXP1 and DFDA-1643 BK EXP1, which provide ignition resistance and flame-retardation. These compounds possess a unique balance of mechanical properties, including high-tear strength, excellent tensile properties and advantaged rheological characteristics. The combination of these properties enables these compounds to offer significant benefits versus traditional materials for flame-retardant jacketing and insulation, riser cable, industrial cable, communication cable and FTTX applications.
Manufactured via unique polyolefin processes and catalyst technologies from Dow, DFDA-1643 NT EXP1 and DFDA-1643 BK EXP1 provide a host of advanced mechanical properties, including abrasion resistance and ease-of-extrusion without the need for special screws, as well as improved electrical performance and strong thermal properties, including outstanding low-temperature performance. These advanced polyolefin-based compounds also are lead-free, halogen-free and sulphur and antimony-free, making them environmentally friendly.
