10Gbit/s Ethernet links to 25m over Category 7
Mysticom Inc., USA, an innovative supplier of integrated circuit communication providing complex DSP and mixed-signal VLSI solutions use in high-speed communication systems, announced superior performance and extended data transmission distances during interoperability testing with the Nexans Category 7 connector and cable assembly solution. The tests confirmed that Mysticoms MY3124, 10G XAUI-XAUI retiming transceiver and Nexans cable and connector assembly solution, together provide a cost-effective 10 Gigabit-Ethernet solution for data centre and horizontal entreprise network enviroments.

In the interoperability test utilising Cat. 7 data cables, the links were operated at a distance of 25 metres with the enhanced mde enabled on the MY3124 and 20 metres in standard 8b/10b mode. A variety of data patterns were transmitted, including the stressful IEEE Draft P802.3ae/D4.1 continuous Random pattern. All results were achieved with better than 10-15 Bit Error Rate (BER). We are pleased that Mysticom has successfully demonstrated interoperability between the MY3124 transceiver and our LANmark-7 cabling solution based on the GG45 interface, commented Mr Mark Rogers, general manager of Nexans Cabling Solutions. These results add confidence into the 10 Gigabit-Ethernet technology and allow customers to design 10Gbit/s system based on fully standardised copper cabling systems, Mr Rogers added.

The MY3124 is a retimer device that has two identical 10Gbit/s attachment unit interfaces. The device has programmable data rates with an operating range from 1Gbit/s up to 3.1785Gbit/s. The MY3124 is intended to drive extended distances for point-to-point communications in applications requiring 10Gbit/s over copper links. Nexans LANmark-7 cable assembly is a Cat. 7/600MHz cabling system, which is based on the new connector GG45, a 2 in 1 connector that contains a new interface for 600MHz transmission. It also contains a full RJ45 interface to allow backwards compatibility with existing RJ45 products. Backwards compatibility allows a smooth migration towards higher bandwidth and is contributing significantly to the acceptance of Cat. 7 cabling systems.
