| SKET Verseilmaschinenbau GmbH, Germany, is a supplier of machinery and equipment for the manufacture of electric cable and steel wire rope. The company�s portfolio of machinery comprises tubular stranders, double and single-twist stranders, bunchers, cage-type stranders with and without back-twist, drum-twisters, as well as special-duty machinery. SKET�s machines and equipment are designed to manufacture steel wire ropes, steel cord, low-relaxation prestressing steel wires and strands, telecommunication cables (copper and optical fibre cables), power cables, submarine cables as well as OPGW cables.
Drum-twisters occupy an important position in today�s manufacture of cables and this is why these machines play a significant role in SKET�s manufacturing programme. Whether for the manufacture of copper wire telephone cables, fibre optic cables or in the wide reaching range of energy cable production, drum-twisters remain irreplaceable. Although in use for many decades, this technology has been continuously developed and the replacement of all drives with separate AC-drives for all machine assemblies ensures rapid adjustment for a specific product application. Automatic loading systems also reduce down times when changing drums that are stored in the loading system whilst the machine is running. For the stranding of pre-spiralled conductors, analogue layer monitoring systems are used which, depending on the product and the arrangement of the rotating pay-off units, enable to individually adjust the AC rotational drives and, consequently, the back-twist. By this, high-production speeds can be guaranteed. Drums having a flange diameter of up to 4m and a capacity of up to 30 tonnes can be accommodated for the production of energy cables. Frequently, a number of technological processes are combined in a single machine, and stranding, screening, taping as well as armouring are possible.
The drum-twisters are complemented by other important assemblies and, in particular, the most up-to-date tape wrapping technology. Tension controlled band brakes ensure high-linear speeds. Using the experience gained over many years in the manufacture of drum-twisters and through continuous development and improvement, SKET continuously optimises these machines for today�s cable manufacturing requirements.
