| Specialising in the design and manufacture of high-accuracy laser micrometers and laser gauges for non-contact diameter measurement and control, Aereol Srl, Italy, offers its series of Extruline laser measuring systems that are suitable for the diameter control of extruded products, such as sections, electric cables and other similar products. The Extruline system is based on a single or dual axis laser gauge, installed at the exit of the extruder, which measures the external diameter of the product along one direction (single axis gauge) or 2 directions at 90� (dual axis gauge). In such a way, it is possible to measure the average diameter of ovalised products, assuring a very efficient regulation. Using laser technology, Extruline can be used to control products which are in movement, hot or easily deformed, where conventional instruments cannot be used and may even damage the product.
The signals from the laser gauge are processed by a CE-10 electronic control unit, which constantly compares the measured diameter with the reference diameter entered by the operator. This series of measuring systems has been designed to measure the diameter and the ovality of products sizing from 0.1 up to 207mm �. If the external diameter of the product tends to go outside the pre-set tolerances, Extruline software automatically corrects the extruder so that the product is always within the desired tolerance limits. The diameters measured during the production process can be stored in memory and processed to produce fully-detailed statistical reports required for quality certification.
