New stainless steel grade for subsea cables
AB Sandvik Materials Technology, Sweden, who provides the subsea industry with a full range of stainless steel tubular products, has recently released a new wire material grade that is suitable for the offshore industry.

The new wire grade, Sanicro 36Mo, is a high strength material for slicklines being used in sour wells. Sandvik Sanicro 36Mo is highly corrosion resistant and comes into its own as oil companies dig deeper and face sour wells more frequently. The new grade has been developed in response to oil and service companies needing to lower greater loads into wells without increasing the diameter of the lines used.

Sandvik also offers a range of material grades for process and seawater piping systems, heat exchangers and instrumentation and hydraulic applications. Pioneers in the development of duplex stainless steels, Sandvik super duplex grade SAF 2507 is now accepted as the industry standard for subsea applications such as umbilicals and riser tubing.
