Efficient multimedia cabling for home use
Dtwyler Cables+Systems AG, Switzerland, recently launched a specially developed home communications system, Hypern@ Home MMC 6P, comprising of a 6-pair multimedia cable, multimedia wall outlet and special patch panel. The new system provides house builders and cable network operators a complete solution for the transmission of combined voice, data and CATV services over one single balanced data cable.

With a diameter of only 11 x 7.5mm (oval), the quad based design of Hypern@ Home MMC 6P features optimised isolation of 43dB at 862MHz for the CATV and other high-frequency transmissions. It also has 4 x 2 wires for voice and data services (ISDN, DSL and Ethernet 100Mbit/s). The new cable has strong NEXT abilities with shield measurement of more than 86dB (plus the balanced isolation) allowing it to transmit all services at the same time without interference. The cables high-insulation levels ensure all transmissions are protected against outside interferences and safeguard standard specification maximum emission values. The passive distributor field Hypern@ Home S36/8 employs a patch cable connection point to make use of services within a building. It consists of 12 highly shielded RJ45 jack insert modules for CATV and 24 RJ45 jack inserts for Category 6. The Hypern@ Home multimedia outlets can be delivered either via two RJ45 and two IEC coaxial jack inserts or three RJ45 jack inserts. The CATV version has a passive balun (balancer/unbalancer) with IEC output (plug/jack) firmly integrated. Thanks to its modular design, both versions can be used according to the requirements for forward and feedback channel options. The balun serves the transformation of the balanced coaxial signal into a non-balanced one as well as insulation equalising, according to cable length. The passive balun combined with the new 6-pair multimedia cable transmission line accounts for up to 90m without amplification. The transmission parameters of the new cable meet the requirements of Cat. 6, class E and for PIMF (Pair In Metal Foil) designed cables, Cat. 7, class F requirements are fulfilled.

The new system components are optimised for use with the Dtwyler developed catTV panel which pre-amplifies and pre-equalises modulated TV signals (CATV) between 47 and 862MHz. They are transformed from coaxial technique (75W) into balanced technique (100W) and distributed to 12 outputs with RJ45 jack inserts. Hypern@ Home provides its home users with fully flexible and application neutral category 6/7, transmission class E/F distribution system which allows all services to be transmitted throughout the building where installed. The solution allows for the use of only one single modern data cable per interface eliminating the need for the customary coaxial and telephone cable set-up.
