| With over 50 years experience in the manufacture and design of rotating machinery for the production of power, telecom, optical fibre, data, control and steel cables as well as conductors, the Spanish company Construcciones Mecnicas Caball provides the cable industry with a wide array of stranding, cabling and extrusion machinery, developing new equipment for the manufacture of copper LAN and fibre optic cables.
Of particular interest among the companys recent developments is the new backtwist twinning group designed for data cable pairing. The new machine is a high-speed double twist twinner with integrated backtwist pay-offs. It has been specially designed for the production of pairs for Cat. 5, 5e, 6, 7 and 8 high-quality LAN cables at a maximum production speed of 5,000 twists per minute. The new machine features an improved wire path and bow design to reduce the stresses on the pair, allowing to run at high-speeds even with sensitive products.
Another recent development is the companys tandemized fibre optic premises cable extrusion line, designed for the manufacture of all cables from patch-cords up to high-fibre count distribution and break-out cables on the same line. This line includes the new SZ-strander that can produce cables up to 24 fibres in one pass. This one pass production is an efficient way to meet market demands which have increased fibre count from traditional 12 fibres up to 24 in one single jacket. The companys new dual layer 24 tight-buffer SZ-strander reduces work down to only one tandemized process step by eliminating sub-unit jacketing and cabling.
