Broadband applications available over structured cabling
D�twyler AG Kabel+Systeme, Switzerland, has recently launched a catTV system which enables the integration and flexible distribution of TV signals, such as antenna, satellite and cable as well as video in balanced class E or F 100W copper cabling. With the launch of the new system, the need for parallel coax cabling and different connecting techniques is eliminated. Branded Hypern@ Office, the catTV system for office environments consists of an active panel with a frequency of up to 862MHz, available as a 19� version with 12 ports, and includes active baluns (balancer / unbalancer) on the TV device. The system is plug-and-play and can easily be integrated into existing LANs.

In the catTV panel balanced translators and amplifiers allow conversion of the coaxial 75W input signal into balanced 100W signal for structured cabling in buildings, according to ISO/IEC 11801 and EN 50173. The baluns at the end of the cabling line provide automatic re-conversion of the balanced signal into the 75W standard signal for TV devices, without the need for further levelling and measuring. With one switch the baluns can be adjusted to link length at a maximum of 90m to obtain an optimal level at the outlet of the end device. The amplifying and equalising of the baluns delivers compensation of the different frequency attenuation gradients in balanced cables, compared to coax cables.

In order to integrate the complete TV frequency area between 40 and 862MHz in an orderly manner, D�twyler recommends the installation of high-quality 600MHz cabling systems. Most importantly, the cable itself must have a high homogeneous run of the NEXT and the cable isolation as well as high impedance stability after being laid. For this scenario, the company recommends the cables Uninet 7002 4P, 7702 4P, 8002 4P as well as the Hypern@ Multimedia Cable (MMC). Standard 600MHz patch and connecting cable with RJ45 jacks on both sides make the installation flexible and easy to change at any time.
