| FMS Force Measuring Systems AG, Switzerland, provides the wire and cable industry with one of the largest variety of tension sensors (load cells). These sensors are designed to measure anything from thin wire/fibres to massive ropes and from just a few grammes to thousands of pounds per Newton. Electronic unit options are available from simple measurement and display tension amplifiers to closed loop PID tension controllers.
The Swiss company has recently released its latest development by introducing its new PROFIBUS� tension measuring amplifiers, series EMGZ473.W and EMGZ474, both providing users with easy set-up, high-performance and speed capability as well as low space requirements.
The new digital tension measuring amplifiers are suitable for tension measurement with all FMS force sensors. The complete operation is made by the integrated PROFIBUS� connection. The cover of the EMGZ473.W housing has an electrical design identical to the PROFIBUS� standard plug on the EMGZ474. This allows disconnecting the measuring amplifier from PROFIBUS� without cutting the bus line. The mV signal of the sensors is pre-amplified with a fixed gain and then fed directly to the A/D converter. Signal conditioning is digitally made. The PROFIBUS� interface provides flexible signal processing by the control unit. For maximum flexibility, two different PROFIBUS� operating modes are possible:
- Feedback with status (3 data byte);
- Full Control (6 data byte).
