Accurate range of hysteresis brakes and clutches
Techna International Ltd, UK, has recently introduced its new range of hysteresis brakes and clutches that are designed for precise, permanent, trouble-free tension control of fibre optics and fibre optic colouring lines where repeatable process control is essential. These new tools are also suitable for light gauge wires, flyer control, pay-offs, coil winders and a variety of power transmission applications. The new range of hysteresis brakes and clutches provides several exceptional features such as constant torque independent of shaft (rotor) speed, no break-away torque, no contact between wearing parts, no friction elements, same smooth torque that can be maintained year after year, no magnetic particle leak and no external power requirement.

Construction consists of magnet assemblies surrounding a hysteresis. When disc poles face each other they provide maximum magnetic saturation of the hysteresis disc, forcing lines of flux to travel circumferentially through the disc to produce maximum torque. With opposite poles facing each other, minimum saturation is caused, allowing lines of flux to pass right through the hysteresis disc. Combinations of adjustment angles between these two extremes give infinite adjustability and as there are no contacting surfaces, the setting can be maintained indefinitely.

The range includes many models for low-torque and heavy-duty applications, constant tension models, assemblies, stands and pay-offs. For accurate tension applications where critical tension control is essential, Techna also provides custom-designed Eddy Current clutches that provide the ultimate solution for light and medium tension control applications. Constant tension stands provide set it and forget it dependability with one simple adjustable setting for constant tension of any spool size. The range provides models for torques from 0.001Nm up to 15Nm, depending on type, and includes a range of accessories such as drive and mounting plates, shaft locking collars and customised shaft requirements.
