Semi-automatic machine for wooden drum shutter
Overseas shipments of cables are currently mainly transported on wooden drums with seaworthy shutters, which take a consideerable amount of time to manufacture. The German company KFM-Kabelmaschinenfabrik Mller GmbH has recently developed a semi-automatic machine that consists of a modified pay-off and a shuttering device. The pay-off is designed for the reception and alignment of the wooden drum. It is suirtable for drums ranging from 800 to 2,000mm flange diameter.

The drums are manually rolled-in, then taken-up and automatically positioned. The shuttering device features a magazine large enough to shutter at least one drum with boards. This magazine is manually filled but it isolates the boards and conveys them into the position for automatic nailing. The last board has to be nailed manually because different end-gaps will occur. As an additional transport protection, the manufacturer recommends to fix a steel band armouring around the shuttered drum. The pay-out of the ready packed drum in position is effected automatically.
