| Charmilles Technologies, Switzerland, has recently developed the first ever wire EDM tool changer that is designed to deliver improved productivity since it significantly shortens machining times. The new ROBOFIL 2030SI-TW is the world's only wire EDM system capable of switching automatically between two different wires. The result in terms of productivity and flexibility are dramatic. For example, when roughing can be done with a big-diameter wire and finishing with a small wire, the time savings are considerable.
Traditionally, operators had no choice but to tolerate slow cutting and cumbersome wire changing when switching between roughing and finishing. Programmed to guide two different wires in automatic mode, the new ROBOFIL 2030SI-TW is the only system that provides dual-wire capability. Designed to optimise ease-of-use and comfort, the ROBOFIL 2030SI-TW requires no special programming since it is set at the same time for both wires. The machine automatically switches to another wire as needed in less than 45 seconds. While no longer dedicated to a single wire diameter or type, the machine's precision is not affected by the use of two different wires.
