AEI Cables honoured at major event
AEI Cables’ technical director Peter Worrall has recently been named the winner of a prestigious award from the International Wire and Machinery Association (IWMA), for his work in the area of fire performance cables. Mr Paul Wright, chairman of the IWMA, presented him with the award in recognition of his contribution by preparing and presenting the paper entitled “Data Transmission in Fire Performance Cables”. Mr Peter Worrall, a mathematical physicist, and AEI Cables’ technical director, commented: “I was quite stunned to be made the VIP guest for the evening. I am honoured that an industry body such as the IWMA sees the work around fire performance to be of such significance. We have put a lot of work into this area for a long time and it is gratifying that others believe it is important, too.”
The paper (refer to EuroWire N° 37) examined the performance requirements of cables used in critical data circuits in all likely situations in which their continued performance is needed, and more specifically the suitability of cables used in analogue addressable alarm systems, where data transmission is required. It identifies measurable parameters and measurement results from the main classification of fire survival cables, and also provides some guidance on test criteria, which can form the basis of an assessment system.
