| To meet the new challenges occurred by the restructuring of the steel industry in Europe, Carrington Wire Ltd, the largest manufacturer of steel wire in the UK and one of the largest in Europe, has recently announced the appointment of Mr David Crimp as managing director. In his previous position, Mr Crimp has been running the European arm of the materials division of Cookson Electronics, UK, where he has been responsible for managing a successful 150m pan-European business, manufacturing and supplying tin-based alloys and associated products to the industrial and electronic markets in Europe and further afield. His earlier career with Cookson was in sales/marketing roles, mainly in the UK and Europe, but also including three years in the USA. Prior to that he worked for Amax, the large US metals corporation, covering products from iron ore to speciality wire items.
Major potential for Carrington Wire is believed to exist in the mainland Europe market, where the company, despite exporting some 40% of its output, has only a small market share. Mr Crimps experience in sales and marketing, particularly in mainland Europe, will be invaluable in identifying and realising this potential.
Part of Acertec Holdings Ltd, Carrington Wire Ltd is a major manufacturer of wire and wire products for a wide range of applications from bailing to bedding, pre-stressed concrete to fasteners. The companys product range includes bedding and seating wires for springs, baling wires and hose armouring wire, cold heading and cold extrusion wires for fasteners, general industrial and wire-working wires (supplied in coil or cut lengths), pre-stressed concrete and stranded wires for the construction industry, mechanical spring wire, fine and speciality wires, electro-galvanised wires, as well as plating quality wires. With total steel sales of over 250,000 tonnes per year, the company has over 150 years experience in the manufacture of wire and related products.
