PolyOne appoints GM for Asia
PolyOne Corporation – a global compounding business – has recently appointed Dr Willie Chien as General Manager for Asia. In this role, he will report to Bernard Baert, Vice President
of PolyOne’s international operations.
Dr Chien will be responsible for developing the long-term strategy in Asia to enable PolyOne to become a market leader in this region.
Ludovic Tonnerre, who was recently appointed Business Development Director in Asia, will also support him in this regard. Additionally, Dr Chien will be responsible for ensuring commercial
and technical ties to PolyOne’s European and US organisations.
Before joining PolyOne, Dr Chien was Managing Director, Business Director and Corporate Purchasing Director for Hunstman Chemicals in the Asia Pacific region.
He has considerable experience working
as a senior executive in various Asia Pacific countries for several Western multinationals, including as Chairman and General Manager for a Goodyear Tire joint venture, and as Business Director for structural composites in the Asia Pacific region for Ciba Speciality Chemicals.
Dr Chien, who holds a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Massachusetts with a specialisation in polymer processing, has spent the past
two decades devoting himself to numerous technical, operational, strategic-planning, business-development and regional-management positions in the Asia Pacific region. He has also co-authored a book, entitled Business Growth Strategies for
Asia Pacific, which highlights the critical importance of defining a strategy for Asia with local market characteristics.
