CORPORATE NEWS:

DSM Desotech's Shanghai start-up

From a local sales office, via a technical service centre and a distribution centre, to a full-scale manufacturing facility within five years is an incredible achievement. Buoyed by the demand of the Chinese market this is just what UV-curable materials specialist DSM Desotech achieved when it announced the opening of DSM Desotech Specialty Chemicals (Shanghai) Ltd (DDSC) in January this year.

The new plant is the company's fourth manufacturing facility to date, now producing Cablelite® fibre optic inks for the Asia-Pacific region. DSM Desotech's other plants are in Hoek van Holland (the Netherlands), Stanley (North Carolina, USA) and Tsukuba, (Japan). Thelatter is part of Japan Fine Coatings – a joint venture between DSM Desotech and Japanese company JSR.

Weber Lin, DSM Desotech's Sales Director for Asia, confirms why DDSC came into being so quickly: “The Chinese optical fibre industry has grown substantially over the past three to four years,” says Lin. “The opening of DDSC now provides DSM Desotech customers world-class quality Cablelite materials with all the benefits of local production.”

Production equipment, manufacturing processes and quality control measures at DDCS have been carefully engineered to the same stringent standards as those of DSM Desotech's ink manufacturing facility in America. For this reason, Chinese customers confirm that DDSC-produced Cablelite inks are consistent in both product quality and package appearance as those they have received from DSM Desotech in the past.
