CORPORATE NEWS:
Scapa Extends Cable to Russia
Scapa polymerics has announced plans to expand in Russia and the CIS with the appointment of Permanent, a specialist distributor in the region. The move will benefit customers locally with easier access to Scapa's extensive range of LSFOH Megolon® compounds and other cable products.
Following moves towards more stringent cable specifications in Eastern Europe, demand for low smoke and fume compounds is expected to increase by around 30 to 50 per cent per annum during the next three to five years. As part of this trend, a leading Russian cable manufacturer has just specified Scapa Polymerics’ Megolon fire retardant compounds – already well established as market leader in Western Europe – in a telecommunications application. Megolon compounds have shown great potential in this market, with many other key players in the cable market trialling their use in production.
Megolon can also be easily extruded using a low compression screw. Scapa Polymerics has worked with independent engineers on optimum screw design to maximise efficiency and processability. This enables companies to extrude Megolon at consistently high volumes and elevated throughput speeds.
Jack Taylor, business Unit Director at Scapa comments: “This appointment demonstrates our commitment to investing in an increasingly important region and allows us to ensure customers in Russia and other CIS countries have specialised resources on the ground and in their native language. Scapa continues to undertake various marketing initiatives in this region, including developing a product brochure and website in Russian, as well as participation in a number of key exhibitions and seminars."
Scapa Polymerics' market leading low smoke and fume Megolon range offers zero-halogen cable sheathing in applications where safety and fire damage limitation are essential, including hospitals, underground transport systems, airport and railway stations. Megalon is used in a wide array of compound applications for sheathing, insulating, bedding and filling all types of cables, such as energy, control, high frequency, data transmissions, telephone exchange, optical fibre and special fire survival cables.
