CORPORATE NEWS:
Alcatel Supports Cambodia in Reducing Digital Divide
During an official ceremony held at the Institute Technology Cambodia (ITC) in Phnom Penh, Alcatel entered into an agreement with ITC to grant scholarships to 28 top students at the Institute who achieved academic excellence over the past year. The scholarships will be used to cover their tuition fee for one year. The programme, to be run for the next three years, will help Cambodia train professionals to foster the local telecom market development.
In addition to the scholarship, Alcatel will be organising training programmes on a broad range of topics related to telecommunications in the format of regular seminars, with Alcatel experts from within and outside Asia as instructors. Beginning this November, the training programmes will
equip the students with practical knowledge for starting their professional career in the telecom industry.
Mr. Pok Than, Secretary of State of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia and President of the Administration Board for the Institute Technology Cambodia said: "Cambodia is in the position of competing with other countries in the region to ambitiously stay at the forefront in the technology development area. To create such sustainable competitiveness of the country, the government is aware of the importance of education and developing many programmes. The scholarship opens the opportunities for capable students to learn new technologies as they wish, further sharpening their thoughts for the country's development in the future."
"For the past years, Alcatel has been contributing to the telecom market development of Cambodia. Apart from providing market-leading communications solutions to build the telecom infrastructure in the country, we understand the important role that education plays in reducing the digital divide.
Alcatel is pleased to be part of Cambodia's education development," said Philippe Chettou, Senior vice President, Southeast Asia (North), Alcatel in Asia Pacific.
