500,000 tonnes/year bar and wire rod mill for Saudi Arabia
Danieli, Italy, has been awarded a new contract from Saudi Iron & Steel Company, for the supply of a new rolling mill to be installed at the company’s Al-Jubail steel complex. The new 18-pass mill will be made up of SHS housingless stands equipped with quick-changing facilities, plus a ten-pass high-speed wire rod block and state-of-the-art finishing facilities for straight bars and coils production. Product range includes 8 to 40mm deformed bars and 5.5 to 16mm (including down to 6mm Ø deformed) wire rod in coils weighing up to 2.5 tonnes. High-productivity will be obtained via high-finishing speeds, for both straight and coiled products: up to 18m/s for double-strand slit bars and up to 115m/s for wire rod.
Electricals and automation system will be supplied by Danieli Automation and Danieli Centro Combustion will supply the 110 tonnes/hour WH reheating furnace. Danieli complete turnkey supply includes all auxiliary plants and systems (including WTP, compressed air plant, roll-turning shop, EOT cranes, etc.), all buildings, civil works and road system, as well as the erection for the whole plant. The rolling mill plant start-up is foreseen in early 2006.
