Copper rod plant installed in Sultanate of Oman
Outokumpu Castform Oy, Finland, has recently delivered and succesfully commissioned a 15,000 tonnes/year UPCAST® unit at Nuhas Oman LLC, Sultanate of Oman. Thanks to the installation of the continuous casting unit, Nuhas Oman is now set to meet the global market demand for OFHC and OFE grades of 8mm continuous cast copper wire rods produced from LME Grade A copper cathodes. Nuhas will also be able to fully supply its in-house new Niehoff wire-drawing, multi-wire drawing and MAG enamelling department with high-quality 8mm oxygen-free copper rods, to be drawn down to various sizes and applications. One reason for choosing UPCAST® was the suitability of the rod for both, demanding drawing processes and enamelling applications alike. The Nuhas bare copper conductor portfolio ranges from 1.03 to 4.58mm, and also comprises strand bunched copper conductors up to 0.161mm Ø for individual strands.
“The installation of the UPCAST® system is part of our modernization programme to permit us to lower costs, increase our competetive strengths and quality. We have recently also invested in wire drawing equipment from Niehoff and enamelling lines from MAG, and are using our UPCAST® rod to feed the various product lines in our modern wire department. We are targeting servicing of a niche global market in all our product groups and this would be achieved through adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies. We would also be looking to cater to industrial demand for 8mm continuous casting rods globally”, commented Mr Sunil Bhutani, a senior marketing manager at Nuhas Oman LLC.
