New steel melt shop for Morocco
Danieli, Italy, has recently been awarded a contract by the Moroccan company Sonasid (Société Nacionale de Sidérurgie) for completion of a new melt shop with fume treatment and water treatment plants. The new 625,000 tonnes per year steel making plant, presently being supplied by Danieli and due for start-up in spring 2005, will directly supply billets to the existing 18-stand flexible bar and section mill also supplied by Danieli and successfully in operation since July 2002. Rolling mill products range from 8 to 40mm Ø bars, and sections up to 60mm. The new 1,600,000m3 capacity fume treatment plant will be equipped with quenching tower for fume cooling and for environmental-friendly operation. When the new steel making plant is in operation, Sonasid's plant will be the most advanced mini-mill for long product production in operation in the region.
