CORPORATE NEWS:
New Borstar® polyethylene plant for Borealis
Borealis A/S, Denmark, a leading supplier of high-quality polyolefin plastics, polyethylene and polypropylene, recently broke ground for its new 350,000 tonnes per year polyethylene plant at its petrochemical site in Schwechat, Austria. Scheduled to come onstream towards the end of 2005, the new plant will utilise Borealis’ proprietary Borstar® technology and will focus on LLDPE, replacing two old LDPE lines and a HDPE line. “Borealis is committed to match European customers’ rapidly growing demand for LLDPE by adding new capacity and introducing new enhanced, differentiated Borstar LLDPE film products for flexible consumer packaging and industrial applications”, commented Mr David Rolph, executive vice-president Polyolefins Business Group.
As part of the euro 200 million expansion project at Schwechat announced in July 2003, the existing Borstar polypropylene plant will be increased from 210,000 to 300,000 tonnes per year. In addition, Borealis will increase the capacity of its Borstar polyethylene plant in Finland, from 180,000 to 240,000 tonnes per year by the end of 2004, and the Borouge joint-venture Borstar polyethylene plant in Abu Dhabi from 450,000 to 580,000 tonnes per year by mid 2005.
