CORPORATE NEWS:

Properzi to sell its third copper rod line to Sterlite

A pioneer in the development of the continuously cast and rolled (CCR) copper rod line in the early 1960s, Continuus-Properzi, Italy, today offers CCR lines that are suitable for non-ferrous metals, particularly related to aluminium and aluminium alloy rods for mechanical applications and copper rod production starting from both cathodes and 100% scrap of second and third quality.

The Italian company has recently announced that one of its customers, Sterlite Industries, India, signed a contract for the delivery of a new copper rod line. The Indian company already has two Properzi lines in operation in Mumbai, being the first producer in India with a potential of 125,000 tonnes per year. The expansion of the Sterlite Tuticorin Copper Smelter in the south of the country foresaw the acquisition of a third rod line for the production of up to 75,000 tonnes per year. The new line is due to be operational at the beginning of 2005. A 33% future upgrading has also been considered. Continuus-Properzi is a supplier of casting, rolling and coiling equipment. The company can also provide furnaces and equipment for recycling third class copper scrap into ASTM B49 rod.
