wire Singapore 2003: A successful platform
The combined staging of wire Singapore and Tube Singapore in September 2003 has once again offered 260 exhibiting companies from 30 countries and economies a unique and interactive platform to get in closer contact with the buyers from the Southeast Asian region and beyond. Both shows have to a greater extent satisfied the market demands as witnessed by the positive feedback from exhibiting companies. Dr V Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister of State for National Development and Trade & Industry was the guest-of-honour at the opening of wire Singapore and Tube Singapore on 23 September 2003. He reinstated in his opening address that both wire Singapore and Tube Singapore “are important biennial trade fairs that bring together leading international manufacturers, distributors and decision-makers from a variety of industries, such as steel and machine tools, electrical and electronics, as well as building and construction”.
At wire Singapore and Tube Singapore 2003, exhibitors were able to meet with a steady stream of serious buyers. 95% of the 4,029 trade visitors at the 2003 shows came from outside Singapore. The majority of these visitors were manufacturers and decision-makers. This is a clear indication of the importance of wire Singapore and Tube Singapore as a platform to serve the diverse industries in Asia. These industries are constantly on the look out for the latest and most sophisticated state-of-the-art cutting edge technologies on machinery, equipment and its peripherals.
Manufacturing will remain as a key engine of the Southeast Asian economy and it is riding on technology for growth. There is no doubt that technology plays an essential role in the manufacturing field. Without technology, manufacturing would not grow so fast. The manufacturing sector in Asia is in transition and is progressing towards more sophisticated and higher value-added activities. As the region pushes ahead with restructuring their manufacturing sector to be more robust, there will always be a need for product innovations, technologies and new manufacturing, production and processing methods. The need is endless.
Mr Gernot Ringling, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf Asia, commented: “With the Southeast Asian economy heading to be a single economic space for trade and investment, this region can be one of the most competitive regions in the world having built bridges through free-trade agreements with important trading nations such as Japan, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. There are abundant opportunities for all those connected with the wire and tube industries and for this reason wire Singapore and Tube Singapore is confirmed to again take place in 2005”.
